a message from the blogger

I'm still trying to update Touille's blog so that there are no more dead links or links to sites that are not secure. I've had to delete a few posts which made no sense anymore. Touille is always on my mind as I update and read old posts.

Tuscon, Arizona has a Touille dog available for adoption

Adopt A Pet

Touille from Tucson AZ

The dog pictured above is a young male Chihuahua mix available for adoption. At the Adopt A Pet website you can search for adoptable dogs, cats, and other pets who need homes, or you may find out how to rehome a pet who needs placement. I found the site when I was using Google to see what came up when I searched for "Touille" (no longer does this blog come up on the first page as it did at the height of Doggie's Blog popularity).

I was struck by how much this little dog resembles my (female) Touille. The Tucson dog's ears are bigger, but the facial expression and coloring are very similar. And Touille of St. Louis had a wart in the center of her forehead, which our friend Clint called her "Third Eye"!

Touille from St. Louis MO (now in dog heaven)

Touille might say:
Now that I am no longer on this earth, I am not worried about the popularity of various blogs including my own. But I am happy that MB has found something to occupy her time that involves remembering me, her faithful companion for so many years. For those humans who are able to adopt a pet, that is a wonderful thing for caring people to do for animals.
I am happy in heaven because I no longer have pain or infirmities, and many of my dog friends are here with me. When I was still on earth, I blogged about what heaven might be like. It's a little like the beach, but not exactly. I am a dog who, when on earth, liked to be precise in my descriptions. But dog heaven defies description to the point that I can't really describe it. For those dogs (and people) who haven't made it to the heavenly realm yet, you can picture it like the San Diego Dog Beach if you like.
 - Touille, who maintains that a picture may be worth a thousand words, and that dog heaven is more wonderful than a thousand pictures

We all need to stay hydrated and cool

Dogs by Ted Colegrove on Flickr

It's getting warmer in the northern hemisphere. Don't forget to stay hydrated and cool.

If you are in a flooded area, remember that the water may be contaminated with chemicals, sewage, and other pollutants.

Touille's advice: Drink clean, fresh water.

dog at the Tartan Festival

There were several dogs at the Tartan Festival in Saint Charles. I don't think that Touille would have liked it though. Booming drums and wailing bagpipes were never her thing.

She would have enjoyed the sausage and the sweet meat stix.

This sheep also marched in the parade.

Mardi Gras Pet Parade in Soulard (St. Louis MO)

Mardi Gras Pet Parade 159, originally uploaded by Herkie.

Herkie has lots of photos taken on pet parade day, most of which don't show any pets. They are very good photos of people and taverns in Soulard, and a nice one of a crab cake. I especially like this photo of a man in a hat holding his dog.

sleeping & dreaming

I don't know the story behind this photo, but this dog seems so peaceful on the blanket. Why the blanket is lying in what appears to be a parking lot has not been explained.

His person told me that he's a therapy dog. She also told me his name but I forgot it already!

2007 St. Patrick's Fun Dog Show Outfit

The photographer, DonnitaMae, says:
This is Miss Sarie's dress for this year's St. Patrick's Fun Dog Show. Last year she won for the best Irish Costume. That is the premo sought after category in the show! So this year we had to top last year's costume!

The dress material is a wool crepe gabardine. The bodice is lined in a green satin and the skirt is lined in the green sparkle material. I added a camisole that is lined with green fleece and has the green sparkle material on the outside. Her neckline and sleeves are trimmed in malibu boa. She is royalty for sure!

I resized the dress pattern and didn't consider the neckline. It caused the neck to be too big. So instead of starting over, I just made the camisole. It will add warmth for her when we go to the contest on March 3rd.

The 21st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Fun Dog Show was held on Saturday, March 3rd at Market Square in Old Town. Some of the competition categories have traditionally included: Dog with Best Irish Costume, Owner/Dog with the Most Similar Hair (natural only please!), Most Unusual Markings, Smallest Ears, Biggest Feet, Best Spots, Longest Nose, Most Unique/Disproportionate Appearance (Head to Body to Legs), Most Unusual Tail, and Most Mysterious Heritage. This event is held in conjunction with the Ballyshaner’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.

The weather this year was nice, as opposed to last year's frigid temperatures. I only saw one dog shivering, and she seemed to be shivering from nervous excitement, not freezing cold.

May 27, 2006 - Touille only made it halfway up the stairs. I carried her the rest of the way up. I washed her face and carried her back to the car. We drove to the Humane Society office at 8 AM.
